Windows: Run commands to start Control Panel items

Sometimes it is faster to access Control Panel items via command line than clicking and searching in the UI. To use a command, just press <Windows-Key>-R, which will open the Run window. Then just type the command and press <Enter>.

For the .cpl files, the "control" command can even be left out, so that is even less to type.

  1. appwiz.cpl also works in Windows 7 (you only have XP listed). Also the use of the word control isn't needed for .cpl items. eg: this works just as we using "appwiz.cpl" as it does using "control appwiz.cpl"

Thanks for this. In Windows 7, "Add/Remove Programs" has been renamed to "Programs and Features", appwiz.cpl is also listed there.

It is correct, "control" can be left out for the .cpl files. I have updated the text to note that. Thanks.

    1. There are many pages listing this, and I copied it from somewhere. I do this sometimes as this blog is my private collection of technical information I personally use often, so I have everything on one place.
