In the Blackberry Enterprise Server, you can configure that you get notified by e-mail when something critical happens to the BES Servers. For example, if the connection to the SQL Server is lost, you can get notified. Here is how to configure the alerts:

1. In BlackBerry Manager, highlight the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and click Edit Properties.
2. Click on the BES Alert option.
3. In the SMTP Hostname field, type the DNS name of the SMTP gateway.
4. In the SMTP Account Name field, type the Microsoft Windows account that will log into the SMTP server.
5. In the SMTP Address field, type the email address where events will be sent from.
6. In the Event Level field, select one of the following:
   • Critical: All level 0 events (critical)
   • Error: All level 1 events (error)
   • Warning: All level 2 events and lower (warning and error)
   • Informational: All level 3 events and lower (informational, warning, and error)
7. Double-click on User Notification, and then click New to add a new BlackBerry device user.
8. In the Username field, type the recipients name.
9. In the Event Level drop-down list, select on of the following:
   • Default: the event level defined for BES Alert
   • Error: all level 1 events (error)
   • Warning: all level 2 events and lower (warning and error)
   • Informational: all level 3 events and lower (informational, warning, and error)
10. In the Email Address field, type the address alerts will be sent to.
11. In the Console field, type the computers on which console messages notifications display.
12. Click OK to save changes.
